Anguilla : Windward Point

Filed under:

Windward Point

Pack a lunch and take a hike along the rocky coast line of Windward Point or the long road that runs from North Side all the way to Island Harbour. At the far eastern tip of Anguilla is a small hill with panoramic views in all directions. This is Windward Point. earby Windward Point Beach is wild and exciting, being open to the Atlantic. While a little rough for swimming, it is great for exploring. Wear hiking boots and explore the eastern tip of the island. Climb the rock at the end of Anguilla and get an excellent view of Scrub Island. This area is at present completely desolate…take a buddy.

Anguilla : Savannah Bay

Savannah Bay

The Savannah bay is usually shallow and sandy along the shore, but strong weather can change the bay bottom. The swimming is excellent, but as with all Atlantic beaches, the currents and surf can be strong at certain times of the year. It is located on the eastern end of the island, Savannah Bay is a long sweeping cresent beach backed by sand dunes. At present this beach has one beach bar and an occasional small fishing boat. You can swim out into the bay for a long ways and still stand up. The coral and fish get more interesting the further out you go. Last week Brennan Rego (a young visitor from Sun Valley, Idaho) spotted 3 sea cows blending into a coral formation.

Anguilla : Mimi Bay

Mimi Bay

Located on the southeastern coast of the Island, the coastline is rocky with strong surf. This is the place to find unusual corals and beautiful shells. Isolated rugged and not a great place for swimming, this beach is perfect for shelling and hiking. Take a buddy while going. This beach is a romantic, windswept beach more suitable for walking or simply enjoying the solitude rather than swimming, as the sea can get a little tricky.

Anguilla : Sandy Hill Bay

Sandy Hill Bay

A cresent of sand on a protected bay, Sandy Hill beach is a pleasant place to sun and swim. A favorite beach of the local population. A number of villas, some rental villas line the hills around this beach. Check out the panorama of Sandy Hill beach. Just walk on beach or take along some hiking boots and head west. The beach gives way to searocks and around the point is another small spit of sand called Dropsey Bay. Not great for swimming but it has interesting rock formations.

Anguilla : Forest Bay

Forest Bay

Information will be available very soon

Anguilla : Elsie Bay

Filed under:

Elsie Bay

Probably Anguilla’s smallest beach, this tiny jewel has some unusual snorkeling opportunities. Several rental villas are within walking distance of this beach. Situated just east of Little Harbour on the southern coast. This is a popular local spot for picnics, but most of the time it is completely deserted. Experienced snorkelers will enjoy the coral formations close to the shore of this beach. Fairly well protected with very little wave action.

Anguilla : Little Harbour

Little Harbour

Little Bay is located near Crocus Bay and the Valley, but it feels very secluded and is a favorite spot for boat excursions and snorkeling. Little Harbour is the most protected bay in Anguilla, but very shallow. We sailed our Laser sailboat here when we didn’t know what we were doing and needed to practice tipping it over and righting it. The bottom is more like a lake bottom than the bright white sand of most bays.

Anguilla : Blowing Point

Filed under:

Blowing Point

Visitors arrive by plane at Wallblake Airport in the very centre of the island and by ferry at Blowing Point on the south coast. Blowing Point is the ferry port for Anguilla, this strip of beach has a very selcuded area to the west of the ferry that is wonderful for beach picnics and swimming. The area also has several rental villas and restaurants. Blowing Point beach provides some shade under the sea grape trees and you can stroll over to the ferry terminal bar or to Big Jim’s Snack Bar. There is another beach to the west, Sandy Point beach, featuring the Ferryboat Inn, Patsy’s Seaside Villas and with the Pavillion Hotel a short stroll away.

Anguilla : Rendezvous Bay

Filed under:

Rendezvous Bay

One the most spectacular beaches on Anguilla is Rendezvous Bay Beach. This long perfect crescent faces St. Martin and has plenty of room for three resorts, while still having long stretches of undeveloped beach. Going from east to west on the bay, the first resort we come to is the Rendezvous Bay Hotel, which has suites directly on the sand and also on the rocky shoreline adjacent to the beach (where there is also a restaurant, Cedar Grove. The picture above shows the beach, looking back east toward the hotel.
